Mare

Mare is a project which began in 2006 and which Alessandro works on whenever he has the time. The Mare project studies the elements of the sea in its simplicity and harmony. They are images resulting from a long meditation which aim to illustrate a new approach to the element ‘sea’ at different levels. The sea seems to be larger than anything else, empty and full at the same time, similar yet never the same, in perpetual movement, always a source of inspiration, a multitude of contradictions to our eyes but which, nonetheless, manage to fit together in total harmony. The elements involved are few; a small wave, a particular light, a clear or obscured horizon, an embracing calm or a terrifying storm. With so few elements, the interpretation has to be meaningful so that the sea in front of us reflects our own mood. The constant evolution of nature is reflected in the sea; in our eyes we mirror the sea and follow its example.

Whoever observes the sea with the land behind them, feels all its weight, counter balanced by the lightness above the horizon of the sea. The body, attracted by the water, draws close to the water, enthralled, but at the same time, realizes that what lies in front, albeit familiar, is still a stranger. Its beauty deserves respect and fear and this we recognize as our ancestral home. What is full and what is empty in front of us become fundamental elements in the creation of the image, its lines tend inevitably to simplicity and to the essential, so that our eyes force themselves to investigate further in order to find that harmony which we are so earnestly searching for. Alessandro’s approach to life is an allegory of his images of the sea. He believes in simple things and enjoys immersing himself in the image and bathing himself in all the emotions he receives from the elements that surround him [no pun intended, editor]. He is at pains to point out that this is a work in progress about the ocean, with many aspects that are fundamental in his life: the search for harmony, simplicity and elegance, and a sense of freedom. Alessandro Puccinelli- Italy Mare Alessandro worked in advertising photography at the Substation Studio in Brisbane, Australia from 1993.
